Vikings’ Anthony Barr on hate messages
Posted by: HappyViking - 12-16-2017, 06:10 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (9)

Vikings’ Anthony Barr on hate messages since hit on Aaron Rodgers: ‘I don’t feel it’s going to stop’
Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr was asked Friday about all
the hate messages he has received since his hit two months ago that
broke the collarbone of Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Barr paused and pointed to a Twitter notification on his phone.

“I actually just got one right here,’’ Barr said in an interview with the Pioneer Press. “It says, ‘I hope you tear your ACL.’’’

Since the Oct. 15 hit on Rodgers at U.S. Bank Stadium, there
have been plenty of anti-Barr messages. Barr recently put on the
Internet a picture of a card he received from someone wanting him to end
up like Darryl Stingley, the New England receiver who was paralyzed by a
hit in a 1978 preseason game and died in 2007.

A simple search on Twitter reveals messages from apparent
Packers fans, reading, “I hate Anthony Barr,’’ “Eat (expletive) Anthony
Barr,’’ “Radical Minnosotan Terrorist Anthony Barr, “Aaron Rodgers about
to break Anthony Barr’s collarbone.’’

“I don’t feel it’s going to stop,’’ Barr said of the hate messages. “So it kind of is what it is.’’
Barr was not penalized nor fined for the hit that came after
Rodgers had rolled to his right and threw an incompletion in the first
quarter of a 23-10 Minnesota win. After spending eight weeks on injured
reserve, Rodgers is expected to return Sunday at Carolina. During his
absence, the Packers (7-6) went just 3-4 with Brett Hundley as the
starting quarterback to fall three games behind the Vikings (10-3) in
the NFC North.

The Packers play host to Minnesota next Saturday at Lambeau
Field. Whether Rodgers plays could depend on how he looks against the
Panthers and whether Green Bay wins to stay in the playoff race.

Five days after Rodgers’ injury and four days after Packers
coach Mike McCarthy had accused Barr of “an illegal act,’’ Barr insisted
he’s “not a dirty player.” He wished the quarterback a “speedy
recovery” and said he had the “utmost respect’’ for him.

  John Randle: A Football Life
Posted by: HappyViking - 12-16-2017, 03:55 PM - Forum: The Longship - No Replies

Just watched this on NFL Network, and it's very good.  Not only one of the greatest Vikings to suit up the purple, but a very cool, humble player.  On the field, Johnny was bad a$$!

Lots of great footage, and background on how he grew up. Great story, and I highly recommend it.

Need Another Reason To Find Red McCombs Repugnant?
Posted by: JustinTime18™ - 12-16-2017, 10:56 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (4)

Art Briles - C -Texas Booster Red McCombs has lobbied Incarnate Ward University to hire Art Briles as their new head coach.

"You not only will be getting the best football coach available but also the best man," McCombs told The San Antonio Express News. "In two years’ time, he would leave them with an unbelievable program in place and then could go to the big time, because that’s where he should be in the first place." Briles was fired unceremoniously after numerous sexual assault cases and lawsuits came forward against former Baylor players. Incarnate Ward -- who went 1-10 last year at the FCS level -- have stated they're not interested in hiring Briles.

From Elflein to Gedeon & Cook, Vikings' rookies stepped into big roles this season
Posted by: purplefaithful - 12-15-2017, 11:39 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (1)

Last season's rookie class played the fewest snaps of any team in the NFL. The Vikings have turned that around in a big way. As Mike Zimmer surveyed his rookie class on Thursday, running through the list of his first-year players at a reporter’s request, the Vikings coach could tick off players who were already key contributors, important role players or promising prospects.
“[Pat] Elflein’s pretty good. [Dalvin] Cook is good,” Zimmer said. “[Ben] Gedeon’s done good. We’ve got a lot of them, right? I think [Stacy] Coley’s going to be a player. [Rodney] Adams, he’s got a chance to be a player. [Jaleel] Johnson, he does, too.”
That’s a far cry from a year ago, when a roster decimated by injuries was still unable to ask for much from a rookie class bereft of immediate contributors. This season, in a year where the Vikings knew they were going to have a younger roster after letting some veterans go, their rookies have been more than capable of filling in the gaps.
The Vikings’ rookies have already logged 1,388 snaps on offense and defense this season, led by Elflein’s 837. The third-round pick, who figures to return from a shoulder injury on Sunday, has played 91.9 percent of the Vikings’ offensive snaps at center and could be in line for All-Rookie Team honors at the end of the season.
Cook appeared on his way to plenty of accolades, too, before tearing his ACL in Week 4. He’s got a good shot to return in 2018 as the Vikings’ featured running back. Gedeon has started seven games as the Vikings’ weak-side linebacker, and fifth-rounder Danny Isidora made a spot start at left guard on Oct. 29.
“Some of those guys you’re talking about — Elflein, Gedeon, Cook — are some of our more important guys,” Zimmer said. “I think some guys just take longer than others.”

Alternative Exit Route from Vikings Games Remains in Place Sunday

Alternative Exit Route from Vikings Games Remains in Place Sunday

Fans leaving the Vikings-Bengals game this Sunday can once again expect a new option for accessing nearby freeways via local streets. At the beginning of the 4th quarter, 3rd Street, currently a westbound one-way, will become a two-way street via a contraflow lane between Park Avenue and 11th Avenue S. The reverse lane will allow fans to head east on 3rd Street before merging on to eastbound 4th Street via a crossover prior to the exits leading to I-35W and westbound I-94. Expected to remain in place until approximately one hour after the game, the contraflow lane is designed to improve traffic flow around U.S. Bank Stadium after Vikings games and major events. Because 4th Street, an eastbound one-way, is closed for security purposes prior to and during major events at U.S. Bank Stadium, fans previously have traveled north to Washington Avenue in order to access the freeways. This change provides fans, particularly those departing ramps or surface lots directly north of U.S. Bank Stadium, with quicker freeway access. This will be just the second use of the alternative post-game departure route, and the Vikings are encouraging fans to be patient.[Image: map-111717.jpg]
